Building a Sustainable Future

The climate is changing — and so are we. Celebrate EARTH DAY by discovering the innovative sustainability practices that will ensure a beautiful future for our biodiversity.

Earth Day is all about taking time to consider positive actions we can take to help our planet. But with growing reports of temperature increases, rising sea levels, and unfathomable levels of deforestation threatening our BIODIVERSITY — it can be hard to focus on the excellent advances in sustainable technology.

Yet, there’s a glimmer of hope beneath all of the bad news: the sustainable technology that has the power to change every facet of our lives is already available. Here’s an overview of sustainable options that will transform our lives and the health of our planet:

  • Wind power is transforming the energy industry. Wind farms have become common across the world, with the largest farm located in China. Wind power from these farms is converted into electricity and reduces the amount of carbon entering our environment — replacing nearly 73 million cars’ worth of emissions annually.
  • Solar farms work similarly to wind farms — harnessing the energy from the sun to power our lives. Solar power has become popular on an individual scale. Solar panels can be affordably installed and not only help reduce carbon emissions; they reduce (even eliminate) the cost of electricity.
  • Attention is finally being drawn to the global issue of food waste — and as a result, positive policies are being created to combat it. Food waste accounts for 8-10% of global carbon emissions. The European Union recently decided to become dedicated to meeting the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Target 12.3 to decrease food waste by 2030. This will help improve the level of carbon emissions globally.
  • Sustainable alternatives are being developed for problematic materials like plastic. The demand for biodegradable alternatives to plastic has risen 81%. Governments around the globe, from Italy to Japan, have banned plastic bags to encourage sustainable alternatives. Sustainability has become a global demand for consumers, with 60% agreeing that sustainability is an important quality for the products and services consumed.

Let’s continue to work together to fight for a sustainable future this Earth Day. Committing to sustainable practices, such as using less plastic on an individual scale or donating to those causes promoting sustainable activity, can change the trajectory of our future for the better.
