WORLD WILDLIFE DAY asks you to support our planet's incredible array of wild animal and plant species. Learn how you can be a part of the celebration.
WORLD WILDLIFE DAY was established by the United Nations over 50 years ago to draw attention to the preservation of biodiversity across all of Earth’s ecosystems. An estimated 8.7 million species of plants and animals can be found on Earth, but only a fraction of these species has been identified.
Unfortunately, many of these lifeforms may disappear before we even get a chance to discover them — global populations of animals have suffered an average two-thirds decline in less than half a century and 40% of plants are threatened with extinction.
What are three easy ways you can support wildlife?
- Learn more about wildlife: Keep scrolling our feed to find interesting facts and finds about threatened and endangered species.
- Donate to wildlife in need: Support several conservation organizations at once, including WWF, The Nature Conservancy, and Greenpeace Fund, by donating through VAKOVAKO.
- Spread the word: Tell others about World Wildlife Day and how they too can get in on the celebrations.
