Meet Sea Shepherd Conservation Society
Sea Shepherd Conservation Society protects and conserves the world’s oceans and wildlife through direct action, advocacy and awareness-raising. Their missions across the world target specific issues - such as preventing overfishing, protecting endangered species, and gathering data on marine life. Since 2002, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has helped protect over 6,000 whales and remove over 1,000 pieces of abandoned fishing gear from the Vaquita Refuge, helping save over 4,000 fish, rays, sharks and other creatures.
Since 2015, Sea Shepard Conservation Society has worked with Mexican authorities and researchers to help save the vaquita, a species with a population of less than 20. Additionally, they prioritize direct action by sending ships to hotspots of marine conservation. Today, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is the only organization to provide civilian offshore patrol vessels (COPVs) to authorities of partner countries working to enforce fishing and conservation laws, and prevent marine crimes. As a science-driven organization, they remain committed to supporting research which protects marine life.
90% of funds received go directly towards direct campaigns and projects. Charity Navigator awarded Sea Shepherd Conservation Society a 4-star rating and 100% overall score.
