Happy World Ocean Day

Plastic, overfishing and climate change have turned the tides on our oceans, threatening their health and future. Let's help save them, together.

WORLD OCEAN DAY is here! Today we celebrate the wonderful world of oceans and their importance to our planet.

Earth’s oceans are impressive. Not only do oceans cover 70% of the Earth’s surface, but they also produce about 70% of the oxygen we breathe, making life on Earth possible.

Did you know…

  • The largest mountain range on Earth is underwater — known as the Mid-Oceanic Ridge and stretches over 56,000 kilometers across the seafloor.
  • The deepest point on Earth exists in the ocean. This is the Mariana Trench and it extends 11 kilometers below sea level.
  • Even the largest living structure — the Great Barrier Reef — can be found below the Earth’s surface — and is over 1,400 miles long.
  • Oceans hold between 50% to 80% of all life on Earth. And that is merely a projection. Less than 10% of the world’s oceans have been explored — the rest remains a mystery.

But our oceans deserve more than just one day of recognition. Despite their enormity, oceans are fragile ecosystems, unable to escape the threats of human-driven activities. Oil and plastic pollution, overfishing, destruction of coral reefs, and climate change have left our oceans vulnerable. And while our oceans boast an amazing array of life now, roughly a third of ocean species may disappear in the next few centuries if we don’t act now.

Take a moment today, on WORLD OCEAN DAY, to protect our OCEANS. Donate now.
