It doesn’t take seeing a manatee to help save a manatee. Here are a few easy and simple ways you can make a difference to manatees — and our OCEANS.
Go fertilizer free. Toxic algal blooms, many of which appear because of toxic runoff, pose a harmful threat to manatees. In 2021, over 1,100 manatees died in Florida because of red tide.
Clean a shore. Get involved in local beach and shoreline cleanup efforts to remove trash and debris from coastal areas. By taking action to clean up beaches and shorelines, you can prevent marine debris from harming manatees and their habitats.
Boat responsibly. Manatees are slow, really slow. And that means they cannot move fast enough away from boats. When boating in areas where manatees are known to inhabit, be mindful of your speed and surroundings to avoid collisions.
Support conservation with a donation. Monthly contributions through VAKOVAKO to leading organizations, is one of the easiest and simplest ways to save declining manatee populations. Hold down the yellow donate button to guarantee a manatee a future.
Spread the word. The more people who speak up for manatees, the bigger the chance of their survival. Share that you donated through VAKOVAKO to help manatees and encourage others to do the same.
