All sea turtle species are now threatened with extinction.
The situation is worst in the Indian Ocean, where sea turtles have disappeared in many places. The Save Turtle project is working with local organisations to protect beaches from poachers in 6 locations in Indonesia and 2 locations in southern Sri Lanka. Donate with VAKOVAKO and help save sea turtles!

A total of 5 of the world's 7 species of sea turtles lay their eggs in places where the nonprofit Save Turtle operates. Conservationists carry the eggs to safety and release the baby turtles into the sea as soon as they hatch. Since 2014, more than 4,500,000 turtles have been released and that number is growing every day. The organisation works with the Indonesian and Sri Lankan governments, universities and is assisted by many volunteers.
In addition to direct protection of the hatchling beaches, it is dedicated to the education and development of the local population. The Save Turtle Project aims to improve the conservation of sea turtles globally, so it works with governments and other conservation organisations. Colleagues from Save Turtle also act as consultants. They create educational materials for children that are now used in many countries around the world, and contribute to raising awareness of turtle and other animal and ecosystem conservation issues through the media and public spaces.
Biologist and founder of the organization Hana Vašina Svobodová has also been nominated for the prestigious Josef Vavrousek Award for her work 2 times, which annually recognizes exceptional personalities fighting not only for the protection of nature.
