There are nearly 400 species of parrot, 30% of which are considered vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered by the IUCN. Here’s why your donation matters on World Parrot Day.

Our planet is home to over 10,000 species of birds, many of which can be found in the RAINFORESTS of South America, Africa, South East Asia and the Pacific, including the iconic Hyacinth Macaw, African Grey, Yellow-crested Cockatoo, and Kakapo. Sadly each of these, and so many other parrot species are endangered or suffer as black market birds.
This WORLD PARROT DAY, we’re calling on you to donate to save these remarkable birds and the places they help maintain — here’s why.
Your donation...
- Supports conservation efforts: Donations support conservation initiatives aimed at protecting parrot species and their habitats worldwide. Organizations, like Rainforest Trust and their local partners, are safeguarding parrot species through habitat protection and restoration.
- Funds rescue missions: Parrots, including cockatoos and macaws, are some of the most trafficked exotic bird species in the world. While the parrot trade has been criminalized and conservation efforts have helped reduce the size of the illegal trade, many parrots still find themselves brutally caught, taken from their habitats, and sold. Even more sad, eggs are stolen from nests, leaving their parents to grieve, many of these chicks as orphans.
- Reaches far and wide: Studies indicate the more we protect parrots, the better chance our rainforests have at recovering. Parrots promote healthy plant growth and regeneration by distributing seeds, this, in turn, helps our planet fight climate change and preserve biodiversity.
- Spreads the word: In setting up a monthly donation to one of our supported nonprofits, including Rainforest Trust and Rainforest Action Network, you signal to the world your commitment to the cause, inspiring others to join in the effort to save these magnificent birds and their habitats. Every donation, no matter the size, contributes to the collective impact needed to protect these species for generations to come. Share with your friends and family your donation today!
