Where to Help Humanity in 2024

2023 was a challenging year for nearly 400 million people facing crises from displacement, conflict, and climate change. As we move into 2024, we are reflecting on this year's challenges to create a better future for HUMANITY.

The United Nations announced their focus for improving the state of humanity in 2024: increase humanitarian support through global collaboration for people who continue to face devastating emergencies.

This common goal is shared between UNICEF, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC). The success of these humanitarian organizations in 2023 helped provide essential care and comfort to millions — but more help is needed.

Here are a few areas the world helped in 2023 that still need attention:

Israel-Gaza

War broke out (and continues) between Israel-Gaza. While data remains largely unreported, conditions worsen for civilians. Shortages of medical aid, food and clean water, as well as overcrowded shelters have prompted a rise in infectious diseases and hunger. Here’s how MSF is helping.

Crisis in Myanmar

The Rohingya crisis in Bangladesh still requires urgent attention six years after Myanmar’s military launched a massive offensive. Nearly one million Rohingya remain displaced as violence grows and aid dwindles. Here’s how UNICEF is helping.

Earthquakes in Middle East & Africa

Earthquakes devastated Turkey, Syria, Afghanistan and Morocco in 2023 — some of the deadliest on record. Thousands perished and millions more remain in need as lives struggle to rebuild. Here’s how ICRC is helping.

Ongoing War: Sudan & Ukraine

5 million people were newly displaced in Sudan following conflict that broke out in April 2023. More displacement is anticipated as both wars continue. As of September 2023, nearly 10 million Ukrainians are either internationally displaced or displaced abroad. Here’s how ICRC is helping.

Famine in Horn of Africa & Yemen

Famine continues throughout the Horn of Africa. 21.7 million still require food assistance to survive the longest drought the region has experienced in decades. Millions of Yemeni children are starving as 80% of the population remains in need. Here’s how UNICEF is helping.

More support is desperately needed for humanitarian organizations on the frontlines of these global crises. Donate with VAKOVAKO to help forge a new path forward for HUMANITY in 2024.
