Escalating violence has left Haiti in a worsening humanitarian crisis. Here's what’s happening.

The dissolution of Haiti's government following the president’s assassination has led to an increase in gangs violence and economic instability. In 2023, over 200,000 people became displaced due to gangs violence as the country continues to recover from infrastructure devastation following the 2021 earthquakes. And even though humanitarian organizations are trying to help, the extreme violence is making it challenging to provide lifesaving care.
- Cholera has killed at least 10,000 people in Haiti
- Hospitals have been attacked by gangs
- Over half of Haiti, including children, faces malnourishment and a lack of clean water
- Over 250,000 children do not have access to school
Countries and organizations are getting involved worldwide — but it hasn't been easy to help Haiti. Kenya's court blocked a United Nations supported initiative to send their police forces to aid Haiti. Several humanitarian organizations, like MSF, have also faced issues providing medical care amidst violence. Urgent support is needed to finally help Haiti enter an era of peace.
